THE THOROUGHLY UNOFFICIAL HALL OF FAME Honour the courage. Examine the history.
ANTIFA AF

A thoroughly unofficial collection of courage

Some people
just wouldn’t
fall into line.

Different countries. Different convictions.
A shared refusal to surrender human dignity.

What brings us together

Different opinions.
Common ground.

We don’t have to agree on politics, religion, economics—or much else—to agree on this: fascism is inhuman and unwelcome in our communities.

We can disagree and still defend one another’s freedom, dignity and right to participate. We can challenge authoritarian power without demanding that everyone think alike.

The people celebrated here had differences, contradictions and flaws. We honour their stands against persecution, repression and demands for unquestioning obedience. Their courage deserves recognition; their shortcomings deserve honest examination.

Courage when courage was needed.
Credit where credit is due.

Celebrating Free Speech

A place for humour, dissent and the freedom to question power. For the moment, we’re bringing Jimmy Kimmel and Jon Stewart together in this special selection.

Our editorial selection celebrates free expression; it does not endorse every joke, opinion or decision. These fictional honorary membership cards and their novelty details do not imply actual membership or endorsement by the people pictured. Tribute language is ours, not their quotations. Recognize the warning signs

When power demands silence,
speak truth to power.

Concentrating power. Silencing critics.
Scapegoating people. Demanding obedience.

When these patterns emerge, people need to stand up, speak out and defend one another’s freedom and dignity. The people celebrated here remind us why that courage matters—and why it is needed again whenever authoritarianism takes hold.
